NOTE - Changes made in versions that were not publicly released are documented as being made in the next publicly released version. Changes WinPack V6.70 -> V6.80 ------------------------------ 1. You can now "Read Bulletins" while WinPack is running an auto BBS session. The status of the bulletins listed in the bulletin window will be updated as they are downloaded, i.e. the '*' will change to an 'N'. Also, it is now possible to start an auto BBS session when reading mail or reading bulletins. 2. If you "Read Mail" during an auto BBS session, the "Select A Message To Read" list will automatically update as any new mail is downloaded. It will also update if any FBB unproto beacons are received for new mail to you. 3. The background colour of the "BBS Session" button will change to red during an auto BBS session. 4. The script and compressed mail status windows are hidden if you read mail or bulletins during an auto BBS session, but the "BBS Session" button can be used to show/hide them. 5. The maximum message size that can be read in WinPack has been increased from 30kB to 60kB. Messages longer than 30kB are read as two "pages", with a button to swap between the pages. If you try to read a message larger than 60kB, you are offered the option of reading it with WordPad/Write. 6. The text in the receive windows is now correctly restored if the windows have been hidden by reading mail or bulletins. 7. The bulletin list could only hold a maximum of 32,767 bulletins, it should now be able to hold over 65,000. 8. The way Themes work has been improved - they now support 'AND' and 'OR' logic. See the "What Are Themes?" section of the help. (It's listed in the "Advanced Topics" section of the help index.) 9. Fixed some problems with speech when using WinXP. 10. The flashing scroll lock LED to indicate new mail now works with WinXP. 11. The way quoted text is processed has been changed. WinPack now only reformats quoted lines if the length of a line is greater than 100 characters. In previous versions of WinPack quoted lines were reformatted if they were longer than the line length set in "Comms Setup". 12. The connected station callsign was extracted incorrectly when using WinPack-PCF with MSTAMP ON. 13. Extras are now loaded in alphabetical order of the .XTR file names. This allows you to control the order in which they appear on the File menu and button bar by renaming the .XTR files. Changes WinPack V6.68 -> V6.70 ------------------------------ 1. Fixed a problem with TCP/IP sockets being left in a wait state when a telnet connection terminated. Changes WinPack V6.65 -> V6.68 ------------------------------ 1. "ANSI to ASCII" option added to the Options, Fonts, menu. The default setting of checked corresponds to the behaviour of all previous versions of WinPack. The ability to turn off ANSI to ASCII conversion of keyboard input was put in for one special user, for normal packet use it should be left checked. 2. Fixed a problem when compressed forwarding is used with FBB 7.04 - the BBS sends FSY instead of FS+, and WinPack didn't recognise it. Changes WinPack V6.64 -> V6.65 ------------------------------ 1. Bug fix - the UIV viewer wouldn't work for 7plus'd files that were zipped. Changes WinPack V6.63 -> V6.64 ------------------------------ 1. Bug fix - viewers for 7plus'd files stopped working in V6.63. Changes WinPack V6.62 -> V6.63 ------------------------------ 1. For UI-View(32) users - UI-View(32) can now act as a viewer for WinPack. UI-View(32) Station List snapshots or log files, sent as packet messages, can be automatically passed from WinPack to UI-View(32), and displayed without user intervention. Also, WinPack regards UI-View(32) as a special viewer, that can be activated by pressing Ctrl+U. See "The UIV Viewer" section in the "Viewers" topic of the help for more information, and also the "Using UI-View(32) As A WinPack Viewer" section of the UI-View(32) help. Note:- (a) In the above, UI-View(32) means "UI-View or UI-View32". (b) This viewer feature only works with UI-View V2.38 or later, and UI-View32 V1.58 or later. At the time of releasing this WinPack update, the required versions of UI-View and UI-View32 have NOT yet been released, but they will be available within the next few days. 2. Because Ctrl+U is now used to activate the UIV viewer, the hot key for viewing the FBB unproto buffer has been changed to Ctrl+B. 3. Some internal changes made to the support for telnet, but these changes are not visible to the user. 4. Two extra server directories added - PREBULLS and POSTAUTO. Any programs in PREBULLS are run during auto BBS sessions immediately before the bulletins are downloaded. Any programs in POSTAUTO are run at the end of auto BBS sessions after WinPack has disconnected from the BBS. The idea is that these servers can be used for processing the message list and other tasks that need to be closely tied to an auto BBS session. 5. When the Word spelling checker was used, there was no ASCII<>ANSI conversion applied, so some characters were displayed incorrectly if they were inserted by the spelling checker. The most obvious was ' (single quote). 6. Some changes made to IDEAGW.VBX to try and stop an error message sometimes appearing when WinPack is closed and AGWPE mode is being used. Also IDEAGW.VBX, which is shared by WinPack and UI-View, is automatically moved to the Windows SYSTEM directory, so that both programs will use the same copy of the file. If you use UI-View, then, after installing this update and running WinPack, you should delete IDEAGW.VBX from the UI-View program directory. Changes WinPack V6.61 -> V6.62 ------------------------------ 1. There has always been a restriction on a maximum of 350 bulletins being shown in any of the filtered bulletin lists ("From", "To", "At", "Title", "All Bulls"). The restriction still applies, but the last 350 are now shown rather than the first 350, and the indicator at the top right of the list makes it clear that only the last 350 are being shown. 2. Bug fix - Yapp file transfers failed if the file was bigger than about 8Mb. 3. Bug fix - If a telnet connection terminated with a network error, WinPack would think it was still connected. 4. Fixed a typo in LICENCE.TXT. Changes WinPack V6.59 -> V6.61 ------------------------------ 1. Some slight modifications to the telnet connection logic, to try and make sure that whenever possible the host name is announced rather than the IP address. 2. If you have Microsoft Word installed on your PC, pressing Alt+F7 with the focus in the Edit window will invoke the Word spelling checker. PLEASE NOTE:- (a) to use this feature, you MUST have Windows OLE2 installed on your PC. If you are using Win95 or Win98, then OLE2 will already be installed. If you are using Win31, then OLE2 may not be installed (if OLE2.DLL is present in the Windows SYSTEM directory, then it probably is). The following URL gives information about downloading and installing OLE2 for Win31. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q123/0/87.ASP (b) To use the Word spelling checker, Word has to be loaded in the background. This can take a significant amount of time on a slow PC. 3. A script file - TM-D700.TXT - is included, which will fully initialise a Kenwood TM-D700. 4. "Yapp File Transfers" option added to the "Use Speech..." menu. If it is checked, then YAPPOK.WAV is played if the transfer succeeds, and YAPPERR.WAV if it fails. (Both files are in the WINPACK\WAV directory, and can be replaced with something more exciting than the default files!) 5. Fixed a long-term problem with the default signature reverting to WINPACK.SIG, if it was changed to another signature file. Changes WinPack V6.58 -> V6.59 ------------------------------ 1. Changes to telnet:- (a) A lot of internal changes made to the telnet support, mainly to try and ensure that WinPack will still run even if the PC does not have TCP/IP installed. (In the previous telnet versions it was necessary to rename WINSOCK.NUL in the WINPACK directory to WINSOCK.DLL.) (b) The telnet connection error messages are now displayed in the WinPack receive window, rather than in a message box. This means that BBS.TXT can now be configure to give up if an error occurs. See the revised sample BBS.TXT in TELNET.TXT. Changes WinPack V6.56 -> V6.58 ------------------------------ 1. Changes to telnet:- (a) When using a telnet connection, WinPack now regards the host name up to the first '.' as being the callsign of the connected station. (This may be incorrect, but at least it provides a "callsign" for logging purposes.) (b) An "Auto Telnet" option is available on the Options menu. If you select it, you can configure WinPack for a normal packet mode, and still make telnet connections. WinPack looks at every connect command to see if the connect parameter looks like an IP address. If it does, then host mode TELNET is automatically selected and the connection made. When the connection closes, the original mode is restored. (c) Bug fix - When using a telnet connection, if messages longer than about 4,000 characters were uploaded uncompressed to the BBS, chunks of the message could "disappear" between WinPack and the BBS. 2. TF2.7b host mode now supports the SCS PTC-IIe. Please note that the following virtual TNC parameters need changing from their default values if you use a PTC-IIe - FRACK, RESPTIME, SLOTTIME,, TXDELAY and INICMD. Use the help in the virtual TNC for more information e.g. - ?FRACK Changes WinPack V6.55 -> V6.56 ------------------------------ 1. When using a telnet connection, backspaces are now displayed correctly. Also, WinPack now understands the telnet protocol echo on/off commands. Changes WinPack V6.53 -> V6.55 ------------------------------ 1. When using a telnet connection, a line feed is now added to each carriage return. Telnet protocol commands are removed from the displayed text. Changes WinPack V6.52 -> V6.53 ------------------------------ 2. Support added for telnet connections. Changes WinPack V6.51 -> V6.52 ------------------------------ Fixed a disconnection problem - When used with a BBS running FBB 7.00i, WinPack would not disconnect after compressed forwarding messages to the BBS. This problem resulted from a change in the FBB forwarding protocol. Roger Barker, G4IDE roger@peaksys.co.uk 2002-May-30
